Kamishibai (or Paper Theater) Storytelling Program
Join us for this exciting storytelling event on Saturday, August 5 at 11:30 a.m.!
Kamishibai, or paper theater, is a traditional form of Japanese street theater and storytelling. Popular during the Great Depression and through to the development of television, Kamishibai stories were performed by a narrator who traveled to public performance spaces with sets of illustrated boards. The boards were placed in a miniature stage and the narrator would change the scene as the story unfolded. Manga and anime, widely popular today, grew out of this artistic tradition.
Our kamishibai presentation will include both folktales and a modern story.
The event is free and suitable for all ages!
And as was customary in Japan, sweet treats will be available!
