Fossil Excavation Workshop – Aug. 21

Unearth Fossils with a Certified Paleontologist

Become a paleontologist for the day during this exciting, hands-on Summer Reading program! Led by Earth Science teacher and certified field and lab paleontologist Beth Mowry, participants will experience the excitement of uncovering real fossils while learning how scientists discover, document, and interpret clues from Earth’s ancient past.

Using brushes, scrapers, and other tools similar to those used on professional fossil digs, each participant will carefully excavate fossils hidden inside their own block of sedimentary rock. Along the way, Beth will share how paleontologists locate excavation sites, record their discoveries, and piece together the history of life on Earth.

Participants ages 11 and up will dive even deeper, exploring how scientists determine the age of fossils, the Law of Superposition, and how the landscape of our region has changed over millions of years.

Come ready to ask questions, get your hands dirty, and unearth a story beneath the surface!
