Kamishibai Paper Theater Storytelling
Come get ready for the upcoming Lunar New Year and celebrate the Year of the Snake during the next Kamishibai Storytelling Program on Saturday, January 26 at 11:30 a.m.!
Kamishibai, or paper theater, is a traditional form of Japanese street theater and storytelling. Popular during the Great Depression and through to the development of television, Kamishibai stories were performed by a narrator who traveled to public performance spaces with sets of illustrated boards. The boards were placed in a miniature stage and the narrator would change the scene as the story unfolded. Manga and anime, widely popular today, grew out of this artistic tradition.
The event is free and suitable for all ages!
