Harpersfield School District No. 2

These photos are from Fredia (Johnson) Kelly’s scrapbook in the Stamford Village Library history room. According to a post on the Delaware County NY Genealogy and History Site (dcnyhistory.org) about the conditions of this school in 1855 the school was a built in 1826 and was located on Fisher Road by State Rte. 23. The 1900’s map of Harpersfield, that notes school numbers, is also courtesy of dcnyhistory.org.

I believe the school was also called the Van Dusen District. I suspect the photo with the lady and boy is Mrs. Lanigan and a son.

Fredia taught here for a few years until it closed about 1937 then she taught second grade at Stamford Central School until her death in 1955.
